Hematology deals with blood abnormalities. These blood formation and clotting system diseases are often conected with disorders of the immune system.
Anemia is one of the main disorders of the red blood cell count. Chronic bleedings can also lead to a loss of red blood cells. Problems with white blood cells also include deficiencies but may also involve a surplus production or diysfunction.
Children can suffer from viral infections and other reasons, which can lead to alow platelet count.
Clotting abnormalities and bleeding tendency which result from genetic causes, are major health risks when it comes to minor accidents. This also includes tendency to thrombosis.
Leukemia or other cancer diseases, such as bone diseases or diseases of the inner organs, could be the reason for abnormality in hemostasis.
The symptoms are complex and so are the types of treatments. This starts with a regular monitoring of the conspicuous lab parameters.
A treatment with immune globulins or immune supressive medication such as cortisone is necessary if immune processes have caused the disease.
Using medication for the formation of blood cells can eliminate deficiency symptoms. This also applies for deficient blood clotting factors, which can be restored by medication.
